The 2005 Syn­ergy 65 Owner’s Inau­gural Blend is an invit­ing and full-bodied wine with a touch of spici­ness (from the Syrah and Zin­fan­del com­po­nents). Syn­ergy 65 offers lay­ers and lay­ers of aroma and fla­vors, with hints of caramelized vanilla, white pep­per and black­berry on the nose with black cherry and figs on the palate – result­ing in a long vel­vety fin­ish that lingers pleas­antly to the end.

Monte De Oro’s first pro­pri­etary red wine is com­prised of 100% estate grown grapes from Monte De Oro’s vineyards.

The wine’s name – Syn­ergy 65 – pays trib­ute to the cohe­sive vision and syn­er­gis­tic tal­ents of Monte De Oro’s fam­ily mem­bers, which pro­duce an out­come greater than the sum of the indi­vid­ual parts.

This blend con­sists of 36% Syrah, 20% Mer­lot, 19% Caber­net Sauvi­gnon, 15% Caber­net Franc and 10% Zin­fan­del. Each of these wines, with the excep­tion of Zin­fan­del, was bar­rel aged in French Oak for 16–20 months. The Zin­fan­del was bar­rel aged in Amer­i­can Oak.

Monte De Oro’s Syn­ergy 65 Blend pro­vides a nice bou­quet of green bell pep­per and cin­na­mon on the nose. It is a medium bod­ied wine with tastes of ripe black­berry, cherry, cas­sis and boy­sen­berry. This wine is soft and sup­ple with a light and soft oak tasti­ness pro­duc­ing a vel­vety mouth­feel and a smooth, long finish.

This is Monte De Oro’s sec­ond pro­pri­etary red wine and is com­prised of 100% estate grown grapes from Monte De Oro’s vineyards.

The wine’s name – Syn­ergy 65 – pays trib­ute to the cohe­sive vision and syn­er­gis­tic tal­ents of Monte De Oro’s fam­ily mem­bers, which pro­duce an out­come greater than the sum of the indi­vid­ual parts.

The 2006 Syn­ergy 65 blend con­sists of 34% Caber­net Sauvi­gnon, 25% Syrah, 24% Mer­lot and 17% Zin­fan­del. This wine was bar­rel aged for 24 months in 76% brand new French Oak bar­rels and bot­tled in Octo­ber 2009. It then bot­tle aged for an addi­tional 12 months.

2007 Syrah

The 2007 Syrah is com­posed of 100% Syrah and is a deep plum col­ored, full bod­ied wine offer­ing a mid-palate, tan­nin struc­ture. With a smoky and spicy bou­quet on the nose, the wine leads to a dark, tart cherry, rasp­berry, chocolate-like taste. It has been sug­gested that there might be just a “soft kiss” of grape­fruit in the mid­dle of your palate pro­vid­ing a nice sur­prise when drink­ing. This wine should con­tinue to mel­low with age while pro­vid­ing a vel­vety finish.

Vista Del Monte Vine­yard has 7,761 Syrah vines on 9.6 vine­yard acres. The 2007 Syrah was har­vested on Octo­ber 7 and 8, 2007 and Monte De Oro’s yield was 40.95 tons (5.1 tons per acre).

Fifty-six bar­rels were pro­duced. Of this, 41 bar­rels were used to craft our 2007 Syrah (with the remain­ing 15 bar­rels being used for Monte De Oro’s 2007 Syn­ergy 65). The 2007 Syrah was barrel-aged in 100% French Oak for months –32% being aged in brand new French Oak bar­rels, 29% in 2 year old bar­rels, 7% in 3 year old bar­rels and the remain­ing 21% in neu­tral bar­rels. The 2007 Syrah was bot­tled in late July 2009 and bottle-aged for 14 months..

The 2006 Syrah Reserve is 100% Syrah and can be char­ac­ter­ized as a warm, deep and envelop­ing mouth-feel, loaded with deep black­cur­rant fla­vors com­ple­mented by white pep­pers and a mel­low spici­ness that lingers on the palate. A long fin­ish helps one to enjoy the bal­anced inte­gra­tion of this wine as it stretches out to a nice and mel­low end.

Monte De Oro’s 2006 Syrah Reserve comes from four of the best bar­rels from our 2006 vin­tage. This wine was cul­ti­vated from our Vista Del Monte Vine­yard and was barrel-aged for a total of 35 months and bot­tled on Octo­ber 27, 2009.

The 2006 Syrah is com­posed of 100% Syrah and is a deeply col­ored, full-bodied wine loaded with rich black­berry and black cur­rant fruit, com­ple­mented by hints of tobacco, black pep­per and a very sub­tle earth­i­ness. Soft but ample tan­nins pro­vide struc­ture and lead the way to a velvet-like last­ing finish.

Vista Del Monte Vine­yard has 7,761 Syrah vines on 9.6 vine­yard acres. The 2006 Syrah was har­vested on Fri­day and Sat­ur­day, Octo­ber 20 and 21, 2006 and Monte De Oro’s yield was 40.5 tons (4.20 tons per acre).

Thirty-eight bar­rels were pro­duced – 55% brand new French Oak and 45% one– to two-year-old French Oak. The 2006 Syrah was barrel-aged for 20 months and bot­tled on August 27, 2008.

2007 Caber­net Sauvignon

The 2007 Caber­net Sauvi­gnon is com­posed of 80% Caber­net Sauvi­gnon, 15% Caber­net Franc, and 5% Mer­lot and can be char­ac­ter­ized as an oaky, rich-colored wine that dis­plays nice vari­etal aro­mas of black cherry, black cur­rant and black­berry with nuances of green olive and bell pep­per. A rich mouth­feel with firm tan­nins is framed by hints of vanilla and cocoa lead­ing the way to a dry finish.

Vista Del Monte Vine­yard has 4,420 Caber­net Sauvi­gnon vines on 5.2 vine­yard acres. The 2007 Caber­net Sauvi­gnon was har­vested on Octo­ber 14 and 14, 2007 pro­duc­ing 27 tons (2.7 tons per acre). Monte De Oro retained 20 tons of grapes to make our 2007 Caber­net Sauvi­gnon while sell­ing the remain­ing tons.

Forty eight bar­rels were pro­duced with 32 bar­rels being used to craft our 2007 Caber­net Sauvi­gnon (the remain­ing 16 bar­rels being used to pro­duce Monte De Oro’s 2007 Syn­ergy 65 blend). The 2007 Caber­net Sauvi­gnon was barrel-aged in 100% French Oak for 20 months – 33% was aged in brand new oak bar­rels; 17% in 2 year old bar­rels and 50% in 3–4 year old bar­rels. The 2007 Caber­net Sauvi­gnon was bot­tled in August 2009 and bot­tled aged for an addi­tional 14 months.

Monte De Oro’s 2008 Con­gruity is a blend of 60% Syrah from our Vista Del Monte Vine­yard and 40% Zin­fan­del from our Gal­way Vineyard.

We named this wine “Con­gruity” as this wine has the qual­ity of being con­gru­ous and in har­mony, offer­ing a point of agree­ment between the fla­vors, tan­nins and fin­ish of the two wines pro­duc­ing this blend.

The two wines com­pris­ing this blend were barrel-aged in French & Amer­i­can Oak bar­rels for 28 months. 27% was aged in brand new French Oak, 20% in aged in brand new Amer­i­can Oak and the bal­ance 53%) was aged in two-to-four year old French & Amer­i­can Oak. This wine was bot­tled on March 8, 2011 pro­duc­ing 408 cases.

Monte De Oro’s 2008 Sim­plex­ity was hand­crafted in lim­ited pro­duc­tion specif­i­cally for Monte De Oro’s Wine Club Pro­gram and is being pre­sented to Wine Club Mem­bers first before the gen­eral public.

Sim­plex­ity is Monte De Oro’s first true “mer­itage” blend con­sist­ing of 55% Caber­net Sauvi­gnon, 20% Mer­lot, 15% Caber­net Franc and 10% Petite Ver­dot. The Caber­net Sauvi­gnon comes from Monte De Oro’s Vista Del Monte Vine­yard while the Mer­lot and Caber­net Franc comes from Monte De Oro’s DePor­tola Vine­yard. The Petite Ver­dot com­po­nent comes from the Fitz­patrick Estate Vine­yard in Temec­ula Valley.

The four wines com­pris­ing this blend were barrel-aged in French Oak bar­rels for 28 months. 65% was aged in brand new French Oak and 35% in two-to-four year old French Oak. This wine was bot­tled on March 7, 2011 pro­duc­ing 153 cases.

The 2007 Mer­lot is com­posed of 77% Mer­lot, 13% Caber­net Sauvi­gnon and 10% Caber­net Franc. It is a medium bod­ied, dry wine offer­ing soft tan­nins through­out the palate with hints of black­berry and earth­i­ness on the nose. When tast­ing it, it explodes with a rich, cherry taste that pro­duces a but­tery, smooth mouth­feel. It has a nice, long fin­ish that softly fades away.

Monte De Oro’s DePor­tola Vine­yard has 5,157 Mer­lot vines on 6.4 vine­yard acres. The 2006 Mer­lot was har­vested on Sep­tem­ber 5, 2008 pro­duc­ing 11.9 (1.20 tons per acre).

Monte De Oro’s 2007 Mer­lot was bar­rel aged in 100% French Oak for 21 months. 23% was aged in brand new French oak while 77% was aged in 1 and 2 year oak bar­rels. The 2007 Mer­lot and was bot­tled in Ocot­ber 2009 and bot­tled aged for an addi­tional 13 months.

The 2006 Mer­lot is com­posed of 90% Mer­lot and 10% Caber­net Sauvi­gnon and can be char­ac­ter­ized as a medium-bodied wine offer­ing soft tan­nins through­out the palate, with bright cherry fruit com­ple­mented by hints of boy­sen­berry and blueberry.

Monte De Oro’s DePor­tola Vine­yard has 5,157 Mer­lot vines on 6.4 vine­yard acres. The 2006 Mer­lot was har­vested on Labor Day, Sep­tem­ber 4 and Monte De Oro’s yield was 14.63 tons (2.28 tons per acre).

Forty-eight bar­rels were pro­duced with 40% being brand new French Oak, 35% being one-year-old French Oak and 25% being two– to three-year-old French Oak. The 2006 Mer­lot barrel-aged for 21 months and was bot­tled on August 16, 2008.

2007 Zin­fan­del

The 2007 Zin­fan­del is 100% Estate Grown Zin­fan­del. It has a light color with soft to mod­er­ate tan­nins. Offer­ing aro­mas of rasp­berry and raisin on the nose, this wine pro­vides a jammy taste of rasp­ber­ries, pome­gran­ate, bing cherry, cin­na­mon and spice along with a mod­er­ate to long finish.

Gal­way Vine­yard has 5,429 Zin­fan­del vines on 6.7 vine­yard acres. The 2007 Zin­fan­del was har­vested on Octo­ber 18, 2007 and pro­duced 32.68 tons (4.7 tons per acre).

Fifty eight bar­rels were pro­duced with the wine being bar­rel aged in 72% French Oak and 28% Amer­i­can Oak for 22 months. 24% of the wine was bar­reled in brand new oak; 50% in 2 year old oak; 2% in 3 year old and 24% in 4 year old oak bar­rels. The 2007 Zin­fan­del was bot­tled in August 2009 and bot­tled aged for an addi­tional 17 months before release.

This 100% estate grown wine was hand­crafted in lim­ited pro­duc­tion specif­i­cally for Monte De Oro’s Wine Club Pro­gram and is being pre­sented to Wine Club Mem­bers first before the gen­eral pub­lic.
“Vigna Vicini,” or “Vine­yard Neigh­bors” in Ital­ian, derives its name from Monte De Oro’s first vine­yard Vista Del Monte Vine­yard. Planted in the Spring 2002, Vista Del Monte con­sists of 5.2 acres of Caber­net Sauvi­gnon and 9.6 acres of Syrah Grapes –the only two grapes that grow on this vine­yard, thus being neigh­bors! Vigna Vicini is com­prised of 60% Caber­net Sauvi­gnon and 40% Syrah.
The two wines com­pris­ing this blend were barrel-aged in French & Amer­i­can Oak bar­rels for 28 months. 20% was aged in brand new French Oak with the remain­ing 80% being aged in two-to-four year old French Oak to pre­serve the won­der­ful fruit char­ac­ter­is­tics of these two wines. This wine was bot­tled on March 8, 2011 pro­duc­ing 151 cases.

Monte De Oro is pleased to present its inau­gural release of its Red Dessert Wine – Legato.

In musi­cal terms, “legato” indi­cates that musi­cal notes are played or sung smoothly and con­nected with­out any notice­able breaks. This ide­ally defines our red dessert wine – a smooth com­po­si­tion of Zin­fan­del and Cin­sault result­ing in a long, sweet, vel­vety finish.

The Zin­fan­del com­po­nent came from Monte De Oro’s Gal­way Vine­yard while the Cin­sault com­po­nent came from the Tuclota Vine­yard.

Our 2007 Red Dessert Wine was barrel-aged in 100% French oak bar­rels. It was bot­tled in May 2011 and bot­tle aged for 6 months before its release in Decem­ber 2011.

This is Monte De Oro’s first pro­pri­etary Rhone vari­etal blend.

Temec­ula Val­ley ‘s soils are cre­ated from decom­pos­ing granitic mate­ri­als that pro­vide ideal drainage for grapevines . Addi­tion­ally, the tem­per­a­tures and cli­mate in Temec­ula Val­ley is very con­ducive to grow­ing Rhone vari­etal grapes. The soils and cli­mate con­tribute to clean, pure vari­etal fla­vors that you enjoy in this wine.

Monte De Oro’s Cuvée De Oro con­sists of:
35% Grenache (Rameriz Vine­yard)
30% Mourve­dre (Gal­way Vine­yard)
23% Syrah (Vista del Monte Vine­yard)
12% Cin­sault (Tuclota Vineyard)

This wine was barrel-aged for 27 months with 23% being in new French Oak Bar­rels and 77% being in 2–4 year old French Oak neu­tral bar­rels. This wine was bot­tled on March 7, 2011.

Monte De Oro’s 2008 Syrah is 100% Estate Grown. Our Syrah grapes were har­vested from our Vista Del Monte Vine­yard over 2 times peri­ods –Octo­ber 3rd/October 4th and Octo­ber 9th/October 10th, 2008. Monte De Oro’s yield was 53.6 tons (or 6.7 tons per acre). We retained 43.6 tons of grapes and sold the other 10 tons to another win­ery. Monte De Oro’s grapes were crushed at Temec­ula Val­ley Win­ery Man­age­ment in Temec­ula, Cal­i­for­nia.
 
94 bar­rels of the 2008 Syrah were pro­duced. Monte De Oro sold 50 bar­rels of this wine and retained 44 bar­rels. Of these 44 bar­rels, 15 bar­rels were used to make our 2008 Syrah. The remain­ing 29 bar­rels being used for other Monte De Oro Syrah based wines.

The 2008 Syrah was barrel-aged in 100% French Oak for 25 months. 34% of the wine was bar­reled in brand new French oak bar­rels and 66% were aged in 2-to-4 year old French oak bar­rels. The wine was bot­tled on Jan­u­ary 6, 2011.
